How to choose a men's gem-set watch
Begin with where it will be worn. A watch that lives beneath a shirt cuff at the office asks for restraint: a stone-set bezel, a clean dial, a slim case. A watch for evenings and occasions can carry more light. Then consider your wrist, the movement you prefer, and the metal you already wear — a gold-tone watch sits best beside gold-tone cufflinks and rings.
Dress, sport or statement?
- Dress watches are slim and understated, usually on leather or a fine bracelet, made to disappear beneath a cuff until the light finds them. See men's dress watches.
- Sport watches wear a steel bracelet and an integrated, diver or chronograph profile, built for daily wear. See men's sport watches.
- Statement watches are set from bezel to dial to case. What the street calls iced out, the watch houses call full pavé. See men's statement watches.
Automatic or quartz: what beats beneath the stones
An automatic movement winds itself from the motion of your wrist; its seconds hand sweeps, and it asks only to be worn. A quartz movement runs on a battery, typically keeps time to within fifteen seconds a month, and is ready the moment you pick it up. Neither is the lesser choice, and our guide to automatic and quartz movements explains the trade in full.
Finding your case size
Most men wear a case between 40 and 44 mm. As a rule, a wrist under 16.5 cm (6.5 in) suits 38 to 40 mm, a wrist between 16.5 and 19 cm suits 40 to 42 mm, and a larger wrist carries 42 mm and up. A gem-set bezel makes a watch look larger than its diameter, so when in doubt, choose the smaller size. The case size guide shows how to measure, and our guide to moissanite, cubic zirconia and lab diamond explains the stones.

Common questions
Are the stones in these watches diamonds?
No. Every watch is set with moissanite or cubic zirconia, and each listing names which. Moissanite is a lab-grown gemstone, harder than sapphire and with more fire than diamond; cubic zirconia is a bright, crisp lab-made stone. We never describe either as diamond.
What size men's watch should I choose?
Most men wear 40 to 44 mm. A wrist under 16.5 cm (6.5 in) suits 38 to 40 mm; 16.5 to 19 cm suits 40 to 42 mm; a larger wrist carries 42 mm and up. A gem-set bezel wears larger than its diameter, so if you are between two sizes, choose the smaller.
What is the difference between an automatic and a quartz watch?
An automatic winds itself from the motion of your wrist and needs no battery; its seconds hand sweeps. A quartz watch runs on a battery, is typically the more accurate of the two, and needs no winding. Each listing names its movement.
Are the gold-tone watches made of gold?
No. Gold-tone cases and bracelets are stainless steel with a gold-colored finish, and each listing states the finish. We describe and price them as exactly what they are.
Where do the watches ship from, and how long does delivery take?
